Level Up

I have had the pleasure lately of being able to witness as one of my good friends works diligently to expand their level of awareness and their heart center. There have been moments of struggle, followed by beautiful periods of enlightened thought. Witnessing all this hard work has caused me to reflect on the different levels we exist within, and how we can shift between them with our own work.

Many times we exist within a level without even realizing that we are reacting from that place. Sometimes this can cause pain or upset for ourselves or those around us. However, as we continue to work on expanding our awareness we begin to see patterns emerge and take form around us. These patterns help us to distinguish the levels we are operating from within our own life. We are able to take control of our behavior, thought process, and identity in order to shift the world around us.

This is a quick breakdown of the different levels of existence.

Auto Pilot: We go through the motions, but we do not have much of an awareness as to how our actions are impacting those around us. We do not question our particular spiritual path or wonder what we should be doing with our life. I like to refer to this as the zombie level.

Mind: There is the budding awareness of the ego here, and how it impacts our relationship with the world, and those we share it with. Attachments become apparent to us and we begin to work on releasing them.  We are still existing in victim mode at this point and so we blame the world for things that are wrong in our lives.

Heart: The concepts of unconditional love, giving, and receiving are introduced at this level. We strive to deepen our relationships with those in our lives. We begin to notice how our actions impact the feelings of others, and we work toward a compassionate lifestyle. Intuition, rather than strictly logical thinking, is put into action here. We begin to take responsibility for our own feelings and reactions.

Spirit: Here we delve into our spiritual identity. Who are we, what are we, and why we are here begin to be answered. We gain a more profound identity for our spiritual path. We are able to begin working with the energy of our environment through manifestation, spiritual healing, channeling, or similar work. We understand how our actions ripple across the ocean of beings before us.

Etheric: Our identity is well formed, we have learned how to live and love deeply and compassionately, and we have accomplished the ability to release attachment and ego. At this level we work to become one with all around us, to merge with all spiritual light as we begin to channel divinity through all we do. We learn to just exist without expectations or limitations.

To make this a little easier I came up with a word for each level. When I am responding to a person, event, or thought I check in with these words to see which level I am responding from.

Mind = Thinking
Heart = Feeling
Spirit = Knowing
Etheric = Being

I hope that as you continue to work through your level up experience that you find more peace, joy, health, and love throughout your journey.

Breathe, Smile, Relax, Repeat

Abby Drew

Once in awhile the keepers of my stress that I had buried deeply claw their way back out and wrap their icy little fingers around my life, squeezing out the joy that I strive to experience in this world. I am betting you have these days too. The ones in which you try so very hard to be present in the moment, yet the world just keeps collapsing in. Those times when you swear some unseen force is turning all your clocks ahead throughout the day, snatching away that precious time you had put aside to...relax!

Ah, the battle of stress in this modern age. We all hear about yoga, meditation, and exercise as good warriors against this unseen force, but what happens when you are not able to utilize these warriors in a particular moment? We can't just drop down a yoga mat in the middle of the shopping center when feeling overwhelmed, or start some stretching during that import board meeting when it all becomes too much.

Years ago I created the statement breathe, smile, relax, repeat. I have used this statement, and the related visualizations, when I find myself out in the world, unable to escape into my meditation practice, and feeling those icy fingers of stress start to dance down my spine.

The first part is breathe...this word is to remind me of those deep belly breaths, the ones that fill your whole abdomen. As I breathe into my core I draw my breath down through my legs into the ground beneath my feet. I imagine my feet extending into the earth below me, anchoring deeply within its fertile depths. In doing this visualization I am grounding myself down, allowing the stress to flow out of my body and into the earth. I am now grounded.

The second part is to smile...within this word is the reminder to open my heart  center. When stress hits it can close in and restrict our spirit. Therefore, I draw the sacred earth energy I tapped into during the grounding above and draw that force up into my body, allowing it to fill, open, and bless my heart. I breathe again and feel my heart fill with peace, love, and joy. As I feel the blessing of this energy I smile, deeply from my heart. I am now heart centered.

Next, relax...simply feel the tension within each muscle, each ligament, each joint, each cell let go completely. I imagine every piece of tension melting away under my breath. Any place I feel resistance I just keep breathing compassion, understanding, and patience into that place, giving myself permission to just let go. I feel my body gratefully grow more fluid, smooth, and calm. I am now at peace.

Finally, repeat...continue this statement and visualizations as many times as it takes to feel the stress of the moment pass. Practice this exercise even during moments when you are not experiencing stress in order to remind yourself to hold a peaceful intent always. With practice your body, mind, and soul begin to learn a different response to stressful moments. You are able to be present, without allowing the stress of a situation to knock you off balance. I try to repeat this process at different points each day, feeling grateful to be able to be fully present, and to be full of joy.

Bared in the Night

Abby Drew
The fire of the forest has faded, the dark days have fallen upon us. In this time of dreaming our spiritual work turns inward. As I walk through the woods, breathing in the musk of the fallen leaves, I am surrounded by the naked branches of the trees towering above me. They are bared in the whipping winds and cold breath of late fall. They are not so different from each of us during this transition. Nature is very adept as a mirror for our soul.

Many people fear the dark, but why? Is it that some unknown, unseen force of evil lurks in the shadows hunting us? Maybe. Or is it that the parts of us that we would prefer at times to lock away, to brush aside to be dealt with at another time, are bared to us in those dark days of late fall and winter when other external distractions are put to rest?

This time can be a moment to take advantage of the silence that surrounds us, the quiet that closes its embrace. When I stand in the dark months I try to hold compassion for the pain that hides within, the guilt that clings to us, or the resentment that slides bitterly across the tongue at moments during our journey. I know that these difficult emotions play within each of us from one time to another, so I try to let go of judgment and replace it with unconditional love. When I feed these emotions that love, compassion, and patience for the lessons they repeat to me over and over I find that the power they hold over my daily existence lessens. Once again I find myself breathing with renewed appreciation the musk of the fallen leaves and the rhythm that flows through us, cleared of the shadows within. This is the time I choose to stand, soul bared, with the trees around me as I rest gently upon nature's dreams.

Smudging

White Sage or PaloSanto/Holy Stick can be purchased through Woodland Gatherings at www.woodlandgatherings.com

Woodland Gatherings
The use of smudging is common to Native American and Peruvian spiritual practice, but this great tool can be used by anyone wishing to perform some basic clearing work. Smudging with sacred plants is most commonly performed with White Sage or PaloSanto/Holy Stick. White Sage is one of the four sacred Native American herbs used in spiritual and healing practice. These Native American herbs include sage, cedar, sweet grass and tobacco. Palo Santo/Holy Stick originates from Peruvian shaman traditions for healing and smudging work.

When smudging, the White Sage or Palo Santo/Holy Stick is lit with wooden matches and the flame is blown out (similar to lighting incense). Next, the smoke is wafted over the object, room or individual until there is a shift felt, a lifting, or until it is deemed complete. During the process it is common for prayers to be stated for assistance in the smudging or healing. These prayers can be offered up to any deity you work with, or the universe at large. If weather permits it is helpful to open a window or door at the end to "send out" the dense energy.

The technique of smudging is generally used whenever there is negative, stagnant, or dense energy present. This energy can be in an object, a room, or even an individual. Usually you can tell if this dense energy is there simply by feeling it out. Below are some hints for determining this:

An Object:
1. Does holding the object give you an unsettled feeling in the pit of your stomach?
2. Has the object been involved in some type of negative experience for you?
3. Was the object recently acquired, and is to be used for spiritual or healing work?

A Room:
1. When you walk into the room does it feel like you are "hitting a wall of dense energy" as you move into the space?
2. Do the hairs on your neck prickle as you enter?
3. Do you experience negative emotions such as anger, frustration, grief, or anxiety for unexplained reasons while in the room?
4. Do you get an unsettled feeling in the pit of your stomach while in the room?
5. Has the room been involved in some negative experience for you?

An Individual:
1. Do you, or the individual, have an unsettled feeling in the pit of your stomach?
2. Have you, or the individual, been involved in some negative experience recently?
3. Are you, or the individual, trying to prepare for some healing work?
***If you are thinking of offering clearing to an individual make sure you ask permission before you do this type of work!***

Channeling

Channeling
Abby Drew

Channeling is performed when an individual is able to receive messages from the realms of Spirit. This is usually done in a meditative state. These messages may come from Divinity, angels, faeries, our relations, or the voice of nature itself. Generally these messages are used to heal, inspire, or create change in the world so that the vibrational resonance continues to expand into love and light.

The channeled messages on this blog are from the channeling of Abby Drew, owner of abbydrew.com. Abby has been a lifelong mystic and channel, using her gifts to heal the world around her. She invites you all to sit with the words she received here for the opening of your heart, awakening of your soul, and balancing of your mind and body.
